Esthetician School in Florida: Your Path to a Skin Care Career

MedSpa Institute·August 21, 2026

Choosing the right esthetician school is the first step toward a rewarding career in skin care. MedSpa Institute offers a hybrid 220-hour Facial / Skin Care Specialist Program across two Florida campuses, combining online learning with hands-on training.

What Is an Esthetician?

An esthetician (also called a facial specialist or skin care specialist) is a licensed professional who performs skin care treatments. You'll learn facials, exfoliation, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, waxing, and advanced skin analysis. Estheticians work in medical spas, dermatology offices, salons, resorts, and wellness centers.

In Florida, the credential is called a Facial / Skin Care Specialist. It's obtained by registering with the state after completing an approved program.

Why MedSpa Institute?

MedSpa Institute has been training estheticians in Florida since 2003. We're licensed by the Florida Commission of Independent Education (license #12816 and #12817) and offer a modern, flexible approach to esthetician education.

Hybrid Learning Model

Our program is built for working adults. You'll complete 149 hours online and 71 hours in person at our Miami or Tampa campus. Study theory and watch demonstrations on your schedule, then practice hands-on techniques in a real clinic setting.

Two Florida Campuses

Miami: 3250 NE 1st Ave, Suite 504, Miami, FL 33137
Tampa: 11351 Countryway Blvd, Tampa, FL 33626

Both campuses offer the same curriculum, the same hands-on training, and the same credential.

What You'll Learn

The 220-hour Facial / Skin Care Specialist Program covers:

  • Skin anatomy and physiology
  • Skin analysis and consultation
  • Facials and treatment protocols
  • Chemical peels and exfoliation
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Waxing and hair removal
  • Sanitation, safety, and Florida regulations
  • Client communication and business basics

You'll practice on real clients during your in-person hours, building confidence and a portfolio before you graduate.

Tuition and Financing

Tuition is $6,000 all-in: $5,000 tuition + $100 registration + $900 for your kit and books.

We offer in-house financing with $1,500 down and payments from $135/month with 0% interest for the first 12 months. Affirm financing is also available.

It's free to apply, and no payment is required to enroll.

Esthetician vs. Cosmetologist: What's the Difference?

Cosmetology programs in Florida require 1,200 hours and cover hair, nails, makeup, and skin. Esthetician programs focus exclusively on skin care and require 220 hours.

If your goal is to work in medical aesthetics, dermatology, or advanced skin care, esthetician training is the direct path. You'll spend less time and money, and you'll specialize from day one.

What Comes After Graduation?

After completing the program, you'll register with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation to receive your Facial / Skin Care Specialist credential. MedSpa Institute provides the documentation you need for registration.

From there, you're ready to work. Estheticians in Florida find roles in:

  • Medical spas and aesthetic clinics
  • Dermatology and plastic surgery offices
  • Day spas and wellness centers
  • Salons and beauty retailers
  • Resorts and hospitality

Many graduates also pursue advanced certifications in laser treatments, microneedling, or medical aesthetics.

Ready to Start?

MedSpa Institute makes esthetician school flexible, affordable, and focused on what matters: hands-on skill and real-world readiness.
